The Helsinki Police Department has dismissed a second police officer for conduct unbecoming a police officer after he posted discriminatory messages about racial, religious and political groups.
The hate-fuelled messages took place over the course of private conversations with two other staff members at the department, one of whom was removed from his post last week.
The conversation between the police officers predicted the start of a "civil war" in which "Somalis would be gassed, gypsies shot and Muslims burned with flamethrowers".
In addition to the content of the messages, the disclosure of confidential information obtained in the line of official duties also contributed to the man's dismissal, Helsinki Police Department said.
The sacked police officer can appeal the decision at the Administrative Court.
Suspected right wing extremism among police officers
The man is one of three police officers initially suspected of involvement in a far-right network. He was suspended from his post at the beginning of October.
Like the police officer fired earlier in June, he was suspected of plotting to carry out an attack. However, no charges were brought and the men are no longer suspected of conspiring to commit any crime.
Despite this, Helsinki Police concluded that the man was unfit to carry out his duties, as police are legally obliged to behave appropriately both on and off duty.
"The police department considers [the dismissed] to have seriously undermined confidence in the proper performance of the police's duties," the department stated.
"There have been no suspicions of a far-right police network in the past. The Helsinki Police Department is no place for far-right activities" Helsinki Deputy Police Chief Heikki Kopperoinen said following the sacking of the first officer earlier this month.
